Mw 6.8 Bio-Bio, Chile

On 22 May 1960 a strong earthquake occurred in Bio-Bio, Chile at a depth of 25 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:32:47 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

The strong earthquake occurred a few minutes after the second major earthquake in a series that occurred on 21 and 22 May 1960 due to a series of critical planetary alignments and lunar geometry from 17 to 22 May. For more details, see the report of the first earthquake.
