Mw 6.8 Near East Coast of Honshu, Japan

On 12 May 2015 a strong earthquake occurred near the East coast of Honshu, Japan. The seismic event occurred at 21:12:59 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

The earthquake was preceded by a major aftershock in Nepal earlier on the day to which the same geometry applies (see report below).
