Mw 6.9 Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge
updated 29 May 2021 UTC

On 17 June 2015 a strong earthquake occurred at the Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The seismic event occurred at 12:51:32 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.

Lunar geometry was not too high throughout the week. Planetary geometry peaked around the 15th as Earth was in an alignment with the Sun and Mars, which followed on a WPG peak later on the 12th. Decisive may have been the New Moon on the 16th which coincided with the near Earth-Sun-Mars alignment that resulted in the Moon's alignment with Mars and the Sun within one hour.
