Mw 7.6 Central Peru
updated 30 May 2021 UTC

On 24 November 2015 two major earthquakes occurred in Central Peru. The seismic events occurred at 22:45:40 UTC and 22:50:54 UTC. Both earthquakes had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.6 and occurred very deep at 636 and 631 km respectively.

Two planetary alignments preceded the seismic activity with Earth between Venus and Uranus on the 23rd while Earth was only hours away from its alignment with Mercury and Saturn. Lunar geometry was relatively high whereby the Moon lined up with Venus and Uranus in just over two hours. No WPG occurred.
