Mw 7.1 Southeast Indian Ridge

On 4 December 2015 a major earthquake occurred at the southeast Indian ridge. The seismic event occurred at 22:24:53 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1.

Two planetary alignments on 30 November and 1 December preceded the earthquake. On 29 November lunar geometry peaked 13 and remained relatively high on 2-3 December (index 12). A WPG peak occurred early on the 4th coinciding with a lunar peak reaching 11.
