On 3 January 2016 a strong earthquake occurred in Manipur, India Region at a depth of 50km. The seismic event occurred at 23:05:21 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.

Three planetary alignments from 29 December to 3 January preceded the earthquake with Mercury and Venus in a primary role. Lunar geometry peaked 13 on 30 December, just after the first alignment and index 12 on 3 January after the third alignment. Lunar geometry peaked 10 during the second alignment. Two WPG peaks preceded the earthquake, but the planetary alignments were probably the decisive contributing factor.
