Mw 6.6 Vanuatu
updated 4 June 2021 UTC

On 7 April 2016 a strong earthquake occurred at Vanuatu at a depth of 30km. The seismic event occurred at 03:32:54 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.6.

This is an aftershock in a series of three strong earthquakes that occurred at Vanuatu from 3 to 7 April. Given the high lunar peak on the 5th, it should be considered a contributor to the earthquakes on 6 and 7 April. The lunar peak would certainly have been a reason to issue a warning for seismic activity in the higher 6 to 7 magnitude range later on the 5th or 6th.
