Mw 6.8 Myanmar
updated 7 August 2021

On 24 August 2016 a strong earthquake occurred in Myanmar at a depth of 85 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:34:54 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

From the 20th to the 24th four planetary alignments occurred, most notably Venus-Sun-Uranus early on the 23rd and Earth-Mars-Saturn in the morning of the 24th, practically at the time of the earthquake. From the 19th to the 25th lunar geometry peaked 16 three times. The second peak on the 22nd in particular was critical as it occurred after and during planetary alignments. In the second half of August 2016 no less than ten planetary alignments occurred, resulting in three magnitude 7 earthquakes peaking Mw 7.5 on the 19th. In addition, two strong earthquakes occurred with magnitude 6.8 and 6.7 respectively. Similarly critical was December 2016, which resulted in major seismic activity throughout the month.
