Mw 7.9 South Islands, New Zealand

On 13 November 2016 a major earthquake occurred at South Island, New Zealand. The seismic event occurred at 11:02:58 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.9.

From 8 to 11 November four planetary alignments preceded the earthquake, all of which involved Mercury. Lunar geometry was relatively high on the 9th and 10th reaching 12 as two alignments occurred both involving Mercury and Jupiter. The next lunar peak reached 10 and occurred on the 11th with the fourth alignment. A WPG peak occurred early on the 13th about 10 hours before the earthquake.
