Mw 7.7 Komandorkiye Ostrova Region

On 17 July 2017 a major earthquake occurred in the Komandorskiye Ostrova Region at a depth of 30 km. The seismic event occurred at 23:34:16 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.7.

Three planetary alignments on the 15th and 16th preceded the earthquake, most notably Mercury-Sun-Uranus and Jupiter-Mercury-Uranus. Lunar geometry peaked 10 at the time of the first two planetary alignments. Later on the 16th, at the time of the third planetary alignment, and early 17th lunar geometry peaked 13, after which the major earthquake occurred. It was the first magnitude 7 earthquake since 22 January. Following this critical planetary geometry, a lunar peak on the 19th and into the 20th resulted in a strong earthquake at the Dodecanese Islands.
