Mw 7.1 Near East Coast of Honshu, Japan

On 13 February 2021 a major earthquake occurred near the East coast of Honshu, Japan. The seismic event occurred at 14:07:51 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.1.

As early as 8 February warnings were issued because of a series of planetary alignments that started on 5 February (see next report). Based on atmospheric fluctuations an additional warning was issued for the West Pacific.
