Mw 6.4 Kermadec Islands, New Zealand
updated 31 July 2021

On 20 June 2021 a strong earthquake occurred at the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 17:05:48 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.4.

Two planetary alignments preceded the earthquake, most notably Venus-Mercury-Saturn early on the 20th. Lunar geometry grew from 8 on the 15th to 16 on the 21st. The seismic increase occurred somewhat earlier than anticipated (21-23 June). A suspicious small atmospheric peak occurred on the 18th from 10:00 to 16:00 UTC, but it was not clear enough to isolate potential risk areas.
