Mw 6.1 Irian Jaya Region, Indonesia

On 2 August 2021 a strong earthquake occurred near the South Coast of Papua, Indonesia at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 05:01:21 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.

The earthquake occurred after Mercury lined up with the Sun, Earth and Saturn a day earlier and Earth lined up with the Sun and Saturn early on the 2nd. Lunar geometry reached 8 on the index, which may be the reason that no larger seismic activity occurred.
