Mw 6.1 Nicobar Islands, India Region

On 3 August 2021 a strong earthquake occurred at the Nicobar Islands at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 03:42:35 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.

The earthquake occurred after several planetary alignments on 1 and 2 August, followed by a lunar peak reaching 8 on the index. Following these alignments larger seismic activity was anticipated, particularly 3-5 August, but no magnitude 6 or larger earthquake occurred from 4 to 6 August.
