Mw 7.2 Vanuatu
updated 2 October 2021

On 2 October 2021 a major earthquake occurred at Vanuatu at a depth of 525 km. The seismic event occurred at 06:29:18 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.2.

Large seismic activity was anticipated to occur 1-3 October, potentially up to mid 7 magnitude, because of a near convergence of two planetary alignments, in particular Mars-Venus-Neptune on 30 September. A lunar peak followed on 1 October, reaching index 12, after which the earthquake occurred.
