Mw 6.2 South Sandwich Islands Region

On 4 October 2021 a strong earthquake occurred at the South Sandwich Islands Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 03:54:07 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.2.

Large seismic activity was expected to occur 1-3 October because of critical geometry converging on 29-30 September. The earthquake occurred following the lunar peak on the third, that reached index 15.
