Mw 6.1 Macquarie Island Region

On 7 October 2021 a strong earthquake occurred in the Macquarie Island Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 20:13:01 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.

Larger seismic activity was anticipated to occur 6-7 October due to the Sun-Mercury-Neptune alignment on the 4th, which was followed by two lunar peaks reaching index 12 and 11 respectively.
