On 9 October 2021 a strong earthquake occurred in the Vanuatu Region at a depth of 512 km. The seismic event occurred at 10:58:28 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.

The earthquake occurred a day after Earth's alignment with the Sun and Mars. Critical alignments occurred since the 3rd, also converging with critical lunar geometry.
