Mw 6.2 Easter Island Region

On 3 December 2021 a strong earthquake occurred in the Easter Island Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 04:40:04 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.2.

Due to the Mars-Venus-Uranus alignment late on 1 December, an earthquake warning was in effect for 3-4-5 December. For a depiction of the planetary geometry, see the Telegram post below.
