Mw 6.2 Fiji
updated 28 December 2021

On 19 December 2021 a strong earthquake occurred in Fiji at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 16:28:25 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.2.

Early on the 19th the Moon made critical geometry with Saturn and Uranus, the geometry of which was similar to that of Jupiter-Mars. The Full Moon may have added somewhat to the increased seismic activity, most notably on the 20th when two additional strong earthquakes occurred. But the lunar geometry involving outer planets is thought to be the primary trigger.
