Mw 6.1 Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge
updated 20 March 2022

On 8 February 2022 a strong earthquake occurred on the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 11:59:27 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.1.

The earthquake occurred a day after the Moon aligned with Uranus. Without additional critical planetary geometry, the Moon's alignment with outer planets is a common cause of borderline to low 6 magnitude earthquakes.

From 9 to 15 Februrary no magnitude 6+ earthquakes occurred. The seismic lull was most likely caused by Earth's close alignment with Venus and Mars. See also the Telegram post below.
